Street football has a long and honourable history, witnessed by the number of times that English monarchs have felt the need to ban it. But we haven't sorted the properly-referenced historical paper yet, it doesn't look likely that we will anytime before the autumn - and here's some actual experience from Norway and pictures from London.

This is Kristian in Norway, and I

just want to tell you that we have a nice way of street partying... that just may be suitable in France this summer!

Since Norway now is going ape over our brilliant football team, we have started a few football matches in some heavily trafficked road crossings in Bergen and Trondheim. On one of the actions in Trondheim, 90 persons played

football in Prinsenkrysset, the most heavily trafficked and polluted road crossing in the centre of Trondheim. Bergen have done it twice, too, with great success. Why can't the French do this during the World Cup this summer?

Anyway, we are trying to have football matches or similar things in Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim close to May 16th, but it won't be on that day, because it's the day before the Norwegian national day, and everyone is drunk the whole 16th of may anyway... so there's an unorganized street party all over Norway already. If we tried to start something like a real street party on that day, it would all turn out as a massive puking riot.
